Each week, Mr. Sovo visits classrooms to observe instruction, coach educators, and support school leaders in implementing effective programs. He regularly provides site-based professional development and reviews action plans to drive student achievement. Throughout his tenure, he has led initiatives to improve academic outcomes, support National Board Certification, and introduce trauma-informed practices.

In 2019, he relocated to North Dakota to oversee BIE schools on the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa reservation and the Blackfeet Boarding Dormitory in Montana. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, he helped transition 2,200 students and 550 staff to remote learning in just three days—working across agencies to maintain continuity and care.

Today, Mr. Sovo remains committed to helping schools not just recover—but thrive. He supports curriculum enhancement, literacy integration across subjects, and evidence-based strategies to close learning gaps and elevate outcomes for all students.
