The state of Colorado has outlined skills every K-6 teacher must know and be able to do to teach all students to read proficiently. Use our checklist to determine which areas teachers have mastered, and where they need additional professional learning to develop their skills.

State-Approved Professional Learning Around the Science of Reading:

CORE’s K-3 Evidence-Based Training in Teaching Reading has just been approved by the Colorado Department of Education to meet the requirements for professional development under the Colorado READ Act. The course package includes:

  • On-Site or Online Elementary Reading Academy that teaches educators the critical components of reading and effective instructional practices, based on the science of reading.
  • Language Conventions and Writing Fundamentals Workshop that provides teachers with evidence-based practices to teach language conventions and writing to primary- and upper-grade elementary students, from basic sentence construction to longer compositions.
