About CORE
Consortium on Reading Excellence (CORE) works collaboratively with schools, districts, state organizations, and education agencies around the country as a trusted advisor at all levels of K–12 education to support literacy and math achievement growth for all students. CORE's expertise in early reading, intervention, special education, assessment, writing, English-language learners, and Response to Intervention has led to impressive achievement gains in some of the nation's most vulnerable school systems. With over 1,000 schools and 200 districts served, CORE has supported large urban, suburban, and rural schools. CORE's implementation support services and products help customers build their own capacity for effective instruction by laying a foundation of research-based knowledge, supporting the use of proven tools, and developing leadership.
Bill Honig, CORE's founding President, served as California’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction from 1983 to 1993 and was a leader in the effort to establish a comprehensive improvement strategy in the United States. Linda Diamond, CORE’s CEO, previously served as a public school teacher, principal, Director of Curriculum and Instruction for a K-12 school district, and Senior Policy Analyst with an emphasis on school to career, charter schools, and school reform. Mrs. Diamond is also the co-author of the two professional books, the Teaching Reading Sourcebook and Assessing Reading: Multiple Measures.
